Harvey R. Spencer, Jr.'s Obituary
Harvey R. Spencer, Jr., 89, of New Haven, passed on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne. A resident of Indiana since 1955, Mr. Spencer was born at Friend, Nebraska on January 12, 1923 to the late Harvey R. Spencer, Sr. and Lena M. Spencer. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was involved in the development of the atomic bomb at Los Alamos, New Mexico as a member of the Army Engineers and later was employed there as a civilian. Mr. Spencer retired in 1986 as a Quality Assurance Representative after 23 years of service with the Defense Logistics Agency (currently Defense Contract Management Agency). He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma; children, Steven Spencer and Karen (Stephen) Urschel both of New Haven; siblings, Harold Spencer of Lincoln, NE, Louise Stocker of Ravenna, NE, and Shirley Wilke of Grand Island, NE; five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, LaVonna Krous, Harley Spencer, and Betty Cords
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to service. Pastor Rick Fletcher officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials are to Golden Years Homestead, Fort Wayne.
