Gilbert E. Hoffman's Obituary
Gilbert E. Hoffman, 84, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Eli and Esther (Hobrock) Hoffman. Gilbert was a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church, Woodburn. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1995 from International Harvester after 36 years of service. Gilbert loved gardening, working outside, fishing, and watching Purdue sports. He was a loving family man and had an extra special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth “Betty”; sons, Steven (Linda) Hoffman of Sobieski, WI and Kent (Shari) Hoffman of Sewall’s Point, FL; siblings, Calvin (Janet) Hoffman of Hoagland, David (Marianne) Hoffman of Grabill, Eileen (Donald) Coleman of Fairway, KS, and Kathleen (Wayne) Byerley of Fort Wayne; and grandchildren, Melanie, Jennifer, Sarah, Ashley, and Kyle. He was also preceded in death by his son, Stanley Hoffman and his wife Vicki; and brothers, Donald, Wilmer, Ralph, and Clifford Hoffman.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, 4412 Park St., Woodburn with calling one hour prior. Rev. Timothy Edwards officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Christ Lutheran Church or Heartland Hospice.
