Gertrude Mary Gehring's Obituary
Gertrude Mary Gehring (also known as Gertie and Trudi) died on January 28, 2015, at Pine Crest Village Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She was born March 1, 1912, to Charles and Mary (Stoppenhagen) Werling at their farm home in Wells County, IN, near Ossian. Trudi was the middle child of nine. Her siblings who have all preceded her in death were Minnie Bosselman (Arthur), Edith Schmidt (Walter), Hilda Deeter (Harry), Arnold (Irma, Dorothy) Werling, George (Ercy) Werling, Herbert (Anne) Werling, Dorothy (Walter) Schroeder, Lorene (Jerry) Gremaux, all of Fort Wayne, IN. Trudi married Cecil Dull in 1934 in Decatur, IN. She moved to New Haven, IN, in 1951 and to River Forest, IL, in 1962 where she served as Residence Director at Concordia College in River Forest, IL, until 1971. There, Trudi met and married Dr. Albert Maurer, and later, they moved back to New Haven, IN. In 1986, she married Ronald Gehring.
In 2005, Trudi moved to Pine Crest Village Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay, close to her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Joanne, where she enjoyed nine happy years with the caring staff and residents there. She was active in her church wherever she lived. Trudi's greatest joy was her family in whom she took great pride. She loved playing cards and will be remembered for her enjoyment of life, her good humor, her peaceful nature, and her wisdom. Trudi is survived by two sons, Roger (Jeanette) Dall of Batavia, IL, Charles (Joanne) Dull of Sturgeon Bay, WI; five grandsons, Rex (Dawn) Dall, Winfield, IL, Chris (Katie) Dall, Elburn, IL, Timothy (Tara) Dull, Oak Park, IL, Peter (Judith Tsui) Dull, Seattle, WA, and Andrew (Maureen McGuire) Dull, St. Paul, MN; ten great-grandchildren, Madeline, Connor, and Matthew Dall, Jordan, Sam, and Cuyler Dull, Stella and Agnes Dull, and Emma and Tilly Dall; numerous nieces; and nephews. Also Ron's children: Sandy (Tom) Skrabanek, Debbie Leonard, and Ron (Terry) Gehring, and his grandchildren: Kim Bolles, Stacy Hurst, Greg (Vanessa) and Doug (Leah) Gehring, Suzanne (Matthew) Rupert, Christy and Clare Leonard and Ron's eight great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and three husbands.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 28 at her home church, Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green St., New Haven, IN 46674. Memorials may be given to Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven or Concordia University Chicago, River Forest, Illinois or charity of choice.
