Gerhardt John "Junior" Schaper, Jr., 84, of Fort Wayne, died Friday, February, 6, 2015 at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Gerhardt H. and Lydia (Witte) Schaper. He was a lifetime member of Martini Lutheran Church, New Haven, where he served as Deacon several times. Gerhardt was a professional truck driver and later retired from Central Lutheran School, New Haven, as a custodian. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Lois (Helberg) Schaper; daughters, Cathy (Kelly) Mettert of New Haven and Sandra "Sandy" (Tom) Haggarty of Fort Wayne; Sister, Bonnie Hazen of Churubusco; grandchildren, Christina "Tina", Kaitlyn, and Andrew "A.J." Mettert, Alexander Reilly, and Mikayla Haggarty; sister-in-law, Norma Schaper; brother-in-law, Gerald Fuhrmann. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Carl "Tuffy" Schaper and Elna Fuhrmann. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Martini Lutheran Church, 333 Moeller Rd., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Pastor Matt Kohl officiating. Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery. Preferred memorials are to Martini Lutheran Church, Central Lutheran School, and The American Heart Association.
