George M. Szilagyi's Obituary
George M. Szilagyi, 65, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at home with his family by his side. Born in Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Edmund and Hildegard (Thiel) Szilagyi. He served his country in the US Air Force during Vietnam and was a member of American Legion Post 330. He was also a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, New Haven. He retired in 2017 from Sport Mart Wholesalers after 28 years. A lover of darts, he ran the AC/DC Dart League with his wife Julie. He also enjoyed auctions, collecting things, and Cubs baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Julie; children, Darlene (Kenny) Burns of Monticello, FL, Lisa (Jonathan) Blackstock and Stacy (Nidal) Enebtawi both of Greenville, SC, Alison (Chad) Paul of Fayetteville, NC, Alex (Marykate) Szilagyi of Elizabeth City, NC, and Austin (Emily) Szilagyi of Fort Wayne; siblings, Susen (Bob) Herndon of Ooltewah, TN, Maria Wanser of Auburn, ME, and Ed (Kathy) Szilagyi of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling two hours prior to service followed with military honors.
