George William Dicks, Sr.'s Obituary
George William Dicks, Sr., 88, of New Haven, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late Clarence and Cleo Dicks. He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church. He retired from International Harvester after 32 years as a design engineer. During WWII, while a student at Purdue University in 1942, George enlisted in the Army Air Corps. as a cadet. He served his country as a B-24 Lead Crew Bombardier for a complete tour of 30 missions over Germany. He served in active duty and ready reserves for a total of 34 years, retiring from the US Army with a rank of Colonel in 1976. He was a member of the 2nd Air Division Association, Reserve Officer’s Association, VFW Howard Bandelier Post #2457, DAV, Past Master of Three Rivers Masonic Lodge, 50 year member of Maumee Masonic lodge, Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine, Past Patron of Star of the East #514, O.E.S., TPA, Fort Wayne Engineers Club, and Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity, Purdue University.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geneva M. Dicks; sons, George W. Dicks, Jr. of New Haven and John C. Dicks of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Stephanie, Deven, Phillip, and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Domas.
Private Interment with a Celebration of Life at Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn, with military honors. Preferred memorials are to New Haven United Methodist Church. Arrangements by E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven.
