Elmer Emanuel Schumm's Obituary
Elmer Emanuel Schumm, 87, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Parkview Hospital - Randallia, Fort Wayne. Born in Schumm, Ohio he was the son of the late Emanuel and Edna (Scaer) Schumm. He was the class president and graduated valedictorian of the 1951 class from Willshire High School at the age of 17. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. A US Army veteran, he served his country during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 420, Monroeville. He retired in 1996 and was the oldest member of Carpenter's Union Local 232. He was also a member of the NRA and loved a good game of Euchre. He is survived by children, Robert (Karen) Schumm of Edgerton, OH, Sue Faust of Fort Wayne, and Jennie (Brent) Van Horn of Monroeville; sister, Mary (Marv) Grote of Schumm, OH; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Imogene "Ime" Schumm in 2019; and son-in-law, Matt Faust. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 800 Green St., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery with military honors.
