Edward Francis Schmidt's Obituary
Edward F. Schmidt, 74, of Coldwater, MI, formerly of Hoagland, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne with his family by his side. Born on October 30, 1940 in Whitley County, IN, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Esther (Scheiber) Schmidt. He was an Air Force veteran and in the trucking industry for 30 years, retiring in 1999 from ANR/ADVANCE. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Coldwater, MI, American Legion Post 420 Monroeville, and the American Fisherman Club. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, NASCAR, playing euchre, wintering in Florida and socializing. Ed never knew a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy (Bowlby) Schmidt; children, Troy of Coldwater, and Lynnette (Paul) Meyer of Angola; Grandchildren Marcus Roussey of Decatur, and Kirstin (Taylor) Dybwad of Irving, TX; brothers, Thomas (Joyce) Schmidt of Kendallville, Stanley (Kathy) Schmidt of Monroeville, Richard (Becky) Schmidt of Churubusco; sisters, Yvonne Denny of Kendallville, Kathy Biltz of Pierceton; half-sister, Loretta Ann Thomas of Fort Wayne, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister; Elaine Rice. Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven with calling 1 hour prior. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Calling is also from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 State Road 930 E., New Haven with a vigil at 2:45 p.m. Burial is in the church cemetery with military honors. Preferred memorials are to Masses, and the Lymphoma Society.
