Edward Arthur Walter "Ed" Herman's Obituary
Edward A. W. Herman, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2025, surrounded by family. We find deep comfort in knowing he is now "safe in our Savior's arms." Born to the late Norbert and Selma (Foerster) Herman, Ed was a graduate of New Haven High School and went on to attend the Indiana Institute of Technology. He served honorably in the United States Air Force before marrying the love of his life, Margaret "Ann" Hunt, in New Haven, Indiana.
Ed dedicated 40 years of service to Aid Association for Lutherans, later Thrivent Financial, before retiring in 2006. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and previously a longtime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven. He also gave back to his community through his work with the Fort Wayne Sheriff's Reserve and the Steuben County DNR Office.
A devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ed cherished time spent with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in hunting, fishing, and relaxing at the lake. He was also a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs.
Ed is survived by his children, Pamela Herman, Jennifer (Rick) Hoffman, Jeffrey (Karla) Herman, Kristina (Jeffrey) Fraser, and Sarah (John) Martin; brothers, David (Suzanne) Herman and DuWayne (Kathy) Herman; his beloved grandchildren, Zachary (Holly) Hoffman, Zane (Sarah) Hoffman, Austin (Cassandra) Herman, Alex (Bridget) Herman, Anna (Zach) McCormick, Audrey (Parker) Sims, Shelby (Alex) Lich, Chad (Reagan) Fraser, Carson (fiancé Autumn Lorntz) Fraser, Hannah Martin, Caleb (Melody) Martin, and 20 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Ann" Herman; and brother, Michael M. Herman.
Funeral service is 11 am Friday, July 11, 2025, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Funeral will be available for streaming https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/edward-herman Visitation is also 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, the funeral home. Burial in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Haven with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
