Edna Maria Anna Hockemeyer's Obituary
Edna Maria Anna Hockemeyer, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at home with her family by her side. Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Emma (Stahlhut) Schmidt. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith on March 30, 1947 at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a 1951 graduate of Elmhurst High School. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Gar Creek, the Ladies Aid and the Quilters. She served on the Federation of Lutheran Women and LWML. She was a member of the American Sewing Guild and taught 4-H sewing for 47 years. She was a homemaker, seamstress, dairy farmer, and was a loving mother. "Her joy came from the Lord and His gifts of serving others." She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Hockemeyer of Fort Wayne, Beth (Greg) Hockemeyer-Kuhlman of Kokomo, Mary (Gary) Potter and Nancy (Gary) Wellman both of New Haven; sister, Mildred (Vern) Buer of Willmar, MN; grandchildren, Katie (Colin) Fritz of Russellville, KY, Sarah (Sean) Anderson, Olivia Wellman, and Jacob Potter all of New Haven, Amy (Andrew) Thoele of Charleston, SC, Anna Wellman of Lake Worth, FL, Amelia (Andrew) Thompson of Hickory, NC, Isabelle Wellman of New Albany, and Grace Kuhlman of Kokomo; great grandchildren, Vera, Charlotte and Violet Fritz and Emma Anderson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Karl W. Hockemeyer in 2005; and great grandson, Christian Fritz in 2014. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church Gar Creek, 1910 N Berthaud Rd, New Haven with visitation one hour prior and will be streamed at https://youtu.be/1NBoilqld94 Visitation is also 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven.
