Donald D. Hoeppner's Obituary
Donald D. Hoeppner, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and went to his heavenly home. Don was born on August 22, 1928, in Woodburn, IN to Hilda (Waltke) Hoeppner. He worked for International Harvester for over 35 years in the I.T. Department as a programmer, systems analyst and manager. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church, Woodburn and served the church in various capacities. He also was a past board member of Woodburn Lutheran School. Don coached youth sports, with a passion for baseball. He enjoyed watching various sports, especially his favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. In his younger days he was a very good athlete, especially at basketball and softball. He also loved playing a good game of horseshoes. He led Woodburn High School to its second ACAC basketball title in 1946 as leading scorer. Don married Gladys Bosselman in 1948, who died unexpectedly in 1995. He is survived by his second wife, Elsie Shanks, whom he married in 2000. They have spent over 20 winters in Zephyrhills, FL. He is also survived by his daughters, Connie (Rick) Smith of Harlan, Chris (Todd) Klopfenstein of Huntertown and Cheryl (Gary) Hammond of Woodburn; sons, Steve (Sally) Hoeppner of Berne and Matt Hoeppner of Auburn; grandchildren, Lucas, Keely (Bains), Marcus and Kurtis Smith, Lee, Scott and Brandon Hoeppner, Jay and Kyle Klopfenstein, Trent and Trevor Hammond, 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Stemmler of New Haven; Elsie's children, Kari Shanks and Darren (Rachel) Shanks; and Elsie's grandchild, Kennedy Varma, all of Canada. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Virgil Hoeppner. Funeral Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday. October 25, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church, 4412 Park St, Woodburn with visitation one hour prior. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2022, at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in the church cemetery.
