Donald "Don" E. Schaefer's Obituary
Donald “Don” E. Schaefer, 73, of Grabill, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Phillip and Addie Schaefer and raised by William and Bessie Schaefer. The lifelong farmer was known for designing his own equipment and owned Don’s Firestone Tire Shop for 22 years. He was a member of Tri-State 2 Cylinder club, Maumee Valley Steam and Gas Association, Cedar Creek Antique Tractor, and was a charter member of the Oliver Gang.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth; daughters, Rosemarie (Jerry) Schwartz of Spencerville, Eleanor (Terry) Schaefer-Paulish of Grabill, and Joyce (Steve) Maxwell of Huntington; siblings, Anna, Mable, Francis, Pat, and Anne; step-brothers, Jimmy and Bobby; and grandsons, Jamie, Nicholaus, and Cameron. He was preceded in death by several siblings.
Funeral Service is 10 a.m. Monday, at Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State St., Grabill with calling one hour prior. Pastor Bill Lepley and Bob Anderson officiating. Calling is also 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial is in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan. Preferred memorials to Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Center or Susan G. Kommen Breast Cancer Foundation.
