Connie Sue Downs' Obituary
Connie Sue Downs, 79, of Woodburn passed away Friday March 7, at Adams Heritage, Monroeville. Born in Woodburn, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Lester Sr. and Waneta Gerig. Connie graduated from Woodlan High School in Woodburn, IN, with the Class of 1963. On April 2, 1966, Connie married the love of her life, Melvin T. Downs. Connie and Mel were married for 48 years until his passing on September 9, 2014. During their 48 years of marriage, they were blessed with a daughter and a son who were the light of their lives. Connie’s family meant the world to her and we couldn’t have asked for a better wife, mother, sister, or grandma. In her earlier years, Connie was a homemaker devoting her time to her family and volunteering at church. When her children were grown, she began working at Bob’s Restaurant in Woodburn, where she retired after 25 years. Connie is survived by her children, Michelle (Brent) Todd of Westfield and Brad (Kendra) Downs of Woodburn; brothers, Les, Dean, Randy, and Dennis; sister, Gloria Clayton; and grandchildren, Alex and Emma Dieckmeyer, Mason and Madisen Downs. She was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Gerig. Funeral service is 1 pm Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven, with visitation two hours prior (11 am-1 pm). Burial at Woodburn Mennonite Cemetery, Woodburn. Preferred memorials are to Cancer Services of NE Indiana.
