Clarence "Pete" Schaefer's Obituary
Clarence “Pete” L. Schaefer, 80, of Harlan, died January 5, 2011 at home. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Philip and Addie Schaefer. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean War. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. He retired in 1981 from International Harvester Corp. after 30 years. He owned an operated the Harlan Tire Company
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Yvonne; children, Karen Crill of Fort Wayne and Gary (Sheri) Schaefer of Spencerville; grandchildren, Melissa (Derek Decker) Crill of Edinboro, Penn., Jennifer (Jevon) Johnson of Fort Wayne, and Pvt. Jonathan Crill of Fort Stewart, GA; sisters, Phyllis “Pat” Ladig of New Haven and Anna (Gerald) Stippich of Monroeville; step-brothers, Jimmy Lee Collette and Bobby (Martha) Collette both of New Haven; and brother, Donald (Ruth) Schaefer of Grabill. He was preceded in death by his son, Tomas L. Schaefer; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral service is 10 a.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8811 Saint Joe Rd., Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. The Rev. John Stube officiating. Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Burial in Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials are to the Ascension Lutheran School.
