Carl August Witte's Obituary
Carl A. Witte, 89, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at his home in New Haven surrounded by his family and the care of Heartland Hospice Care. Born in Ossian on February 5, 1930, he was the son of the late Paul and Clara (Bohnke) Witte. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. The US Army veteran served his country during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 330. He retired in 1982 from International Harvester after 34 years. He also worked at Don Ray Driveway delivering motor homes and delivered for Korte Electric. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice (Werling) Witte; daughters, Deanna Ringenberg and Cynthia (Rodney) Strautman both of New Haven; exchange daughter, Ritva of Finland; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Erwin, Hilbert, and Paul Witte. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne. with visitation one-hour prior. Visitation is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Harper’s Community Funeral Home, 740 State Road 930 East, New Haven. Pastor Steve Ahlersmeyer officiating. Burial in the church cemetery with military honors. Preferred memorials to church building fund or Worship Anew, Fort Wayne.
