Benjamin Winfield Pumphrey, Jr's Obituary
Benjamin Winfield "Gentle Ben" Pumphrey Jr., 84, of New Haven, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Benjamin Winfield Pumphrey Sr and Dorothy (Dicus) Metsch. He served his country in the US Army and retired from City Glass, Fort Wayne. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Barbara; daughters, Monique (Scott) Grove and Dionne (Timothy Benson) Pumphrey; stepchildren, Curtis (Linda) Hungate and Kimberly Wooten; sisters, Nancy Beery, Jackie (Larry) Clem, Brenda Joy Roggie, and Bonnie Glandon; grandchildren, Derek Grove and Audrey Reimer; step grandchildren, Chelsea Pincombe, Devin (Destiny) Pincombe, Ava Jane Wooten; and great grandchildren, Hudson, Walker, Brody, and Brandon. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina "Willy" in 2003; stepson, Billy Huntgate; step grandson, Jack Pincombe; and siblings, Grover Pumphrey and Beverly Frantz.
Funeral service is 2 pm, Saturday, October 28, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 1716 Werling Rd., New Haven with visitation one hour prior. Inurnment in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
