Alberta E. Schaper's Obituary
Alberta E. Schaper, 87, of Decatur, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Woodcrest Retirement Community, Decatur. Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Hortense Fiedler. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven. Alberta graduated from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing as a cadet nurse in 1947 and went on to receive her Registered Nurse degree. She retired in 1982 from East Allen County Schools, where she worked as the school nurse for both the Woodburn Elementary and Woodburn High School with 12 years of service.
She is survived by her son, James Schaper of Cottage Grove, OR; grandchildren, Ian Schaper of San Antonio, TX and Evie (Dimitri) Kariotakis of California; sisters, Gladys Kukelhan of Decatur and Doris Rigby of New Haven; and son-in-law, Father John Kariotakis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 1999; children, Michael Alan Schaper in 1986 and Kathy Kariotakis in 2000; and brother, Robert Fiedler.
Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to service. Pastor David Stecker officiating. Burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Woodburn. Preferred memorials are to Emanuel Lutheran Church or Cleveland Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
