Al Burkett's Obituary
Al Burkett, 84, of New Haven, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Fred and Adella Burkett. He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church. The WWII Army veteran was an active member of American Legion Post 330. He retired from Allen County, where he was Building Manager of the City County Building, Court House and three other county owned buildings for 20 years. He also worked 24 years at Phelps Dodge, served as Adams Twp. Justice of the Peace and on the Allen County Council. He was also a volunteer fireman in New Haven for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred; children, Richard (Linda) Burkett of New Haven and Diane Glosson of Bloomington; sisters, Ilene Lantz and Marjorie Scheimann both of New Haven; grandchildren, Angie, Kori, Brad, Doug, and Nicole; and great grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Ella, Amelia, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Victoria. He was also preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tawyna Burkett.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven. Pastor Rick Taylor officiating. Calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the funeral home. Burial is in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven with military honors. Preferred memorials are for New Haven United Methodist Church.
