Merrill E. Landis

Merrill E. Landis, 73, passed away at home on September 30, 2016 after a courageous year-long fight with cancer. He was a member of Navy Club Ship 245 and a past member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, New Haven. Merrill retired from Michelin North America, Inc., after 30-years of service. He was an avid runner, softball and basketball player and was a force to be reckoned with in shuffleboard. He was a father-figure and mentor to many, often guiding and counseling neighborhood youth. He survived by his loving wife, Doris (Winship) Landis; children Timothy (Kristine) Landis, Jerry (Kim) Landis, and Kimberly (Jason) Landis-Savieo; siblings, Barbara Mason, Sharon White, Leo King, Donald King, Ronald King, Sue King, and Mike King. They have been blessed with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Landis, Sr., and Edith (Grandsatff) King, brothers Glenn Landis, Jr., Gerald Landis, Jack Landis, and sisters Dixie Emerson and Connie Bonjour and grandson Matthew Carpenter. Funeral service is 6 p.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with calling one hour prior. Pastor Lynn Hart officiating. Calling is 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the family.
