    Lawrence "Larry" H. Ehinger

    March 3, 1922 - February 23, 2017

    Lawrence “Larry” H. Ehinger, 94, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at St. Anne Home, Fort Wayne. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Louis and Bernadine (Vodde) Ehinger. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus #451, Fort Wayne. He served his country in the US Army during WWII, was a purple heart recipient, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, and a member of American Legion Post 330. He retired in 1982 from General Electric after 41 years. He had a love of outdoors and loved fixing things. He could often be found gardening, fishing, and working in the yard. He is survived by his children, Laura (Phillip) Trout and Michael (Barb) Ehinger both of Fort Wayne, Thomas (Susan) Ehinger of Denton, TX, and Philip (Kathy) Ehinger of Columbia City; sister, Genevieve Daly of New Haven; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Buck, Karen (Jeff) Pawlak, Leanne (Matt) Franks, Ryan (Marissa) Ehinger, Kevin (Amy) Ehinger, Tara (Paul) Woody, Allison (Otto) Schalk; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Ehinger of New Haven and Hilda Reed of Fort Wayne; 14 great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis in 2003; and siblings, Raymond, Clara, Eugene, Albert, and Harold Ehinger, and Florence Louraine. Mass of Christian Burial is 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Powers St., New Haven. Father Bill Sullivan officiating. Calling is also 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with a vigil at 3: 30 p.m. Burial in the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne with military honors. Preferred memorials are to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Masses.
