Jerome Thomas Closson
March 10, 1942 - October 29, 2017
Jerome Thomas Closson, 75, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior after a month of critical medical intervention on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Thomas and Evelyn (Benschneider) Closson. He was a member of Edgerton Wesleyan Church, Woodburn. A 1960 graduate of Woodburn High School, Jerry excelled scholastically and athletically. He attended one year at Taylor University. Around 1962, Jerry started playing short stop for the Sutton’s, a AA Minor League team that went on to win the National Stan Musial Championship in 1965. Jerry was skilled at woodworking and carpentry. Through the years, Jerry faithfully followed the Cubs, the Fort Wayne Tincaps, and enjoyed shooting hoops. Even though he was confined to a nursing home in his last year of life, he developed friendships, cherished visits with family and never lost his sense of humor. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers that helped and supported Jerry throughout his life. We all benefited from the love and caring of so many over the years. He is survived by his siblings, Bob (Rita) Closson and Rosalie Valutis; nieces and nephews, Cindy (Steve) Goebel, Steve (Leslie) Valutis, Ben (Amber) Closson, and Jen (Alvaro) Anzola; and many great nieces and nephews. Private family service. Burial in Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne, Ohio. Preferred memorials are to the family, c/o Rosalie Valutis.
