Barbara Jean Zehr

Barbara Jean Zehr, 84, of New Haven/Hoagland, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at home with her family by her side. She was born on March 11, 1933 in Payne, Ohio to the late Forest and Anita (Glenn) Lake and was raised in Woodburn. Barbara married Lester L. Zehr Jr. on July 15, 1950, who survives. Barbara worked in various positions throughout her career and ultimately retired as the secretary of the recruiter’s office of the US Air Force. She was a member of American Legion Post 330, New Haven, the Loyal Order of Moose 432, New Haven, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3164, New Haven, and the Westwood Fellowship Church, Woodburn. Barbara loved nature and watching her backyard birds, especially her hummingbirds. She also enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing with her husband. Her wonderful sense of humor brought joy to everyone around her, especially through her short story series entitled, “Country Giggles” (as published in Farmland News, Archbold, Ohio). She is also survived by her children, Jim (Pat) Zehr of New Haven and Tim (Karen) Zehr of Roanoke; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; and one sister. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven with visitation one hour prior to service. Visitation is also 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial in IOOF Cemetery, New Haven. Preferred memorials to Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
