Helen F. Higginbotham, 76, of New Haven, died Monday, July 7, 2008, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Born in Lockland, Ohio she was the daughter of the late K.D. and Georgia Mae Dykes.  She was a member of Harvest Pentecostal Church of God.  She is survived by her children, Geneva F. Smith of Fort Wayne, Cheslie ‘Pete’ D. (Jean) Higginbotham of Huntington, Howard D. (Rhonda) Higginbotham of Fort Wayne, Marcella G. Higginbotham of New Haven, Charlotte A. (Donnie) Smith of New Haven, Ross K. (Barbara) Higginbotham, and Ted ‘Teddy’ J. (Joy) Higginbotham of Monroeville; brother, David ‘Bud’ (Helen) Dykes of Peebles, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Lynn Carroll in November 2007; two brothers; and three sisters.  Service is 3 p.m. Friday at E. Elizabeth L. Weber, 85, of Fort Wayne, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Born in Muncie she was the daughter of the late Lindon ‘Jack’ and Sivila Dumbauld.  She was a loving mother, wife & grandmother.  She is survived by her children, Dave (Martha) Weber of Florida, Richard (Carol) Alexander of Fort Wayne, David (Sue) Alexander of Tennessee, Charles R. Robert C. Herber, 61, of New Haven died unexpectedly Saturday, June 28, 2008.  He was born in Fort Wayne to the late Robert J. & Leona E. Herber.  Robert was a member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Fort Wayne and currently served as the Principal of St. Joseph Catholic School – Hessen Cassel.  Throughout his career as an educator, he had been an administrator for East Allen Co. Schools for 18 years, serving as Athletic Director & Vice- Principal at New Haven High School, Principal at Heritage High School, and Athletic Director at Woodlan High School.  He also served in Catholic Education as Dean of Students and basketball coach at Bishop Dwenger High School, twice named SAC Basketball Coach of the Year.  He was inducted into the Bishop Dwenger and University of St. Francis Halls of Fame.  He is survived by Claudia, his loving wife of 37 years; daughter, Janelle (Michael) Logan of Brownsburg, IN; son, Breck (Lisa Koop) Herber of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Elliott, Claudia, and Joshua Logan and Eliza Herber; sisters, Suzanne Gerardot of Wolcotville, IN, Marjorie Stewart of Antimony, UT, Kathleen Koepke of Harlan, Rebecca Byrket of Fort Wayne, Mary Muns of Auburn, and Karol Dehr of Grabill.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Henry and Joan Kapp.  Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1100 S. Iva L. Ann  Marie Gordon, 91, of Fort Wayne died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Parkview Hospital.  She was the eldest of  seven children born to John & Anna Hoidn in Chicago, IL.  She moved to East Chicago and Munster, IN when her husband, Andrew Gordon returned from serving in the Pacific during WWII.  They moved 6 years ago to Fort Wayne and were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Haven.  She was a much loved wife and mother of Sandra (Tony) Adducci of Scottsdale, AZ; Jackie (Bern) Pokrzywinski of New Haven;  Roger (Ellen) Gordon of Poinciana, FL, and David Gordon of Chicago.  She is survived by all of her children, ten grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Andrew in 2006 and all 6 of her siblings.Mass of Christian burial is 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 943 Power St., New Haven with calling one hour before service time. Mildred Doris Messmann, 103 died November 28, 2007.  Born on November 28, 1904 in St. Joe, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Idabelle Freeburn.  She married Wilfried Messmann on June 28, 1924 at Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. She is survived by children, Valeria and Jack; 25 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.  Her son Max Messmann passed away on May 3, 2008.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfried Messmann in 1984; children, Duane, Bruce, and Dennis; four sisters; and five brothers.  Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, at Christ Lutheran Church, 4412 Park St., Woodburn.  The Rev. W. Maxine Wagner, 95, of Monroeville, formerly of Findlay, Ohio, died peacefully Friday, May 30, 2008 with her loving family at her side.  Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harry and Wilhelmina Howard. Her church memberships included Grace Gathering in New Haven and Calvary Baptist Church in Findlay, Ohio She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society of Calvary Baptist. The Ohio State University graduate  was a dedicated registered nurse at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio retiring in 1977. Throughout her 35 year career she also served as a school nurse  and Dr. Goodman’s  office nurse.  She is survived by her children: Bruce (Diane) Wagner of Cape Coral, Florida, Linnea (Fred) Johnson of Monroeville, sister: Sara Ann Gohlke of Fairborn, Ohio, grandchildren: Bruce T.  and Christopher D. Johnson, step-grandchildren: Melissa, Michael, Melinda, Joseph, Victoria and Jason, one great granddaughter, 7 step grandchildren and one step great great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Wagner in 1994 and brothers, Harry  and William  Howard. Vivian J. Rowe, 90, died peacefully Monday, May 26, 2008 with her family by her side.  Born in LaGrange, she was the daughter of Roscoe and Pearl Funk. Gilbert G. Kuehnert, 80, of Woodburn, died Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home, with his family at his side.  The Fort Wayne native, was the son of the late Charles and Bertha Kuehnert.  He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Woodburn.  Gilbert was a lifelong farmer, and was also employed for 47 years as a tool and die maker for Tuthill Pump, retiring in 1999.  He is survived by his wife of  59 years, Marian; children, Sherry A. Gaylord P. Doty, 93, of New Haven, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 22, 2008 at home.  He was the son of the late William and Minnie Doty.  He was a mechanic for Grieger Chevrolet and later DeHaven Chevrolet, retiring in 1976.  He was a member of the New Haven United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his son, David Doty; brother, Wayne (Doris) Doty of Woodburn; and sister, Evelyn Andorfer of Columbia City.  He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah in 2003; brother, Donald Doty; and sister, Kathryn Bouillon.  Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at E. Ramsey Swenson, 79, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at home.  Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Emilie Germann.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church – Decatur Rd. and their Ladies Aid and Guild.  She was active in Appleseed Quilters and very involved in the English as a Second Language Program at Trinity.  She worked as a sales clerk at Sears Southtown and was a sewing instructor for the Singer Company.  She is survived by her husband, Nathan Swenson; children, Kate Willer of Fort Wayne, Keith W. Ramsey of New Haven, Ken C. Ramsey of Fort Wayne, Karl M. Ramsey of Uniondale, and Karen R. Ariel C. Ennis, 90, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehab. Dudley D. Avery, 90, of New Haven, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare, New Haven. The Hamilton, New York native  was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Dudley was married in Detroit, Michigan to Mary Margaret “Peg” Gardiner.  They celebrated 63 years of marriage before her death in 2002.   A veteran of WWII, Dudley served in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of The New Haven United Methodist Church and a former member of the New Haven Kiwanis. He was an engineer for Holley Carburetor and their company representative at International Harvester Testing Facility in Fort Wayne for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1982. He is survived by three sons; Robert Y. (Karen) of Gainesville, VA, Gerald D. (Marjorie) of New Haven, Thomas W. Ralph C. Graft, 87, of New Haven, died Friday, May 16, 2008 .  Born in rural Adams County, he was the son of the late Charles and Adelinda Graft.  He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, New Haven and one of the original players in the Senior Softball League of Ft. Eleanor M. Werling, 88, of New Haven, went to her heavenly home, Tuesday, May 6, 2008.  Born in Woodburn on December 30, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Eggers) Helmke.  Eleanor married Walter C. Melvin A. Max J.  Messmann, 86, died peacefully, Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.  Born in Ft. Wayne, he was the son of the late Wilfried and Mildred Messmann.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne and enjoyed singing with the church choir. Allen ‘Bud’ J. Girardot, 77, of New Haven, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at home.  Born in Rural Allen County, he was the son of Clement and Lena Girardot.  The U.S. Army Korean veteran was a life member of American Legion Post 330, Past Commander 1968-69, Color Guard Commander for over 50 years, and currently serving as Adjutant.  He was American Legion State Sergeant-at-Arms in 1976.  He was a life member of V.F.W. She spent her working life with the General Electric Company of Ft. Wayne.  She was a member of the Elex Club.  Before moving to Valparaiso in 1998, she lived in Ft. Wayne where she was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.  She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Valparaiso.  She retired from General Electric after 40 years of service.  Virginia was a fun-loving person who enjoyed visiting with family and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.  She is survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Miller of Fort Wayne and Violet Scott of Valparaiso; brother, Herman P. Irma C. Dressler, 87, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Lutheran Homes, Fort Wayne.  Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lena Bearman.  She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church (Soest), Fort Wayne.  She retired in 1985 from East Allen County Schools after 10 years of service.  She was a loving woman who gave to others without thinking of herself and cared deeply for her family.  Her volunteer work included the most accumulated volunteer hours at the Lutheran Home, was an honor volunteer of Allen County, was honored by 15 Who Care, and received a large sum of money from the Martha Rippas Foundation which was given to charity in her name.  She and her husband worked for Habitat for Humanity in Immokelee, Florida and were involved in the organization of the Lake George Lutheran Chapel.  They renewed their wedding vows just a few hours before her stroke on February 11, 2007 by Rev. Dorothy Marie Meyer, 82, of Columbia City, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at her home.  Born in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Rosina Bradtmiller.  She graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in 1943. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Columbia City and a former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.  She lovingly cared for her husband, Harold, and her four daughters.  In the summer of 2007 they celebrated 61 years of marriage.  Harold died in October 2007.  She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Jim) Hartman of Lafayette; Deborah (Fred) Christopher of Muncie, Barbara (Dean) Doerffler of Fort Wayne, and Lori (Kent) Preston of Indianapolis; brother, Robert (Margaret) Bradtmiller of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.  Service is 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 7710 E. Regina T. DeBender LaRue, 92, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Sunrise Assisted Living, Ft. Wayne.  Born in Belleville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Teresa Hunkele. She was member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Haven and retired in 1979 after 31 years as a Registered Nurse.   She is survived by her children: Jim (Marie)  DeBender of Ft. Wayne, Jean (Lew) Starr of St. Joe, IN, Bill (Peg) DeBender of Richmond, VA, Phyllis (Al) South of Columbus, OH, Mary (Rex) Anderson of Houston, TX, Luann (Ken) Grover of Bahrain; sister: Margaret Burch of FL, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her 1st husband Jim DeBender in 1965 and 2nd husband: Herman LaRue in 2006, step-son Marvin and 3 brothers. Grover M. Wheeler, Sr. 89, of Woodburn, went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family, Friday, February, 15, 2008  at  Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.
Born in Bryant, Indiana he was the son of the late William and Grace (Jeffries) Wheeler. He was a member of Woodburn Missionary Church and retired in 1978 after 35 years of service with General Electric Company. He is survived by  his son, Grover  (Angie) Wheeler Jr. of  Woodburn and daughters: Carol ( Lee) Montgomery of  Fort Wayne, Tamra (James) Cass of Decatur; sister: Betty Tustison of New Haven;  7 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Goldie Wheeler and one brother and two sisters.. Visitation is Monday 1-4 and 6-8 at the E. Marjorie A. Lybarger, 94, of Hoagland, died Monday, February 11, 2008, at Village of Heritage, Monroeville.  Born in Hoagland, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Leah Smith.  She retired in 1978 from Lincoln National Bank after 14 years of service and previously worked at Farmers Co-Op for 9 years.  She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Hoagland, a past Matron Order of the Eastern Star - Waynedale Chapter #600, and past Regent DAR - Antoine Rivarre Chapter, and a member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association.  She is survived by sons, Gary A. Norma A. Don E. Girardot, 79, of New Haven, died Thursday, February 7, 2008, at home.  Born in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Elmer and Luetta Girardot.  He retired in 1993 from Guardian Photo after 25 years of service and was the former owner of the Texaco Station in New Haven.  He loved fishing, snowmobiling, and was an avid gardener.  He is survived by wife of 57 years, Joan; sons, Don L. RichardDick’ Lantz, 85, of New Haven, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Regency Place, Fort Wayne.  Born in Milan Twp., Allen County he was the son of the late Clarence and Edith Lantz.  He was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church, their Men’s Club, and the Magnavox Quarter Century Club.  The New Haven graduate retired in 1986 from Magnavox with 44 years of service.  He was an avid sports participant especially golf, bowling, and bicycling in Florida.    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ilene; son, Thomas (Jackie) Lantz of Woodburn; son-in-law, Fred Brokaw III of Sarasota, Fla.; grandson, Christopher (Amy) Lantz of Cincinnati, Ohio; granddaughters, Alyson Lantz of Orlando, Fla., Stephanie (Scott) Haney of Woodburn; and great grandsons, Collin Haney, and Jaxson Haney.  He is preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Brokaw.  Service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday at E.
